Set in Glenelg Town Hall at Moseley Square, the Bay Discovery Centre is a social history museum focused on South Australia’s cultural heritage. Its galleries explore the stories of the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains, the state’s Proclamation and settlement, the development of beach culture and notable South Australian identities.
The museum also presents a changing programme of exhibitions and events, selected around South Australian arts and history. Visitors can explore the Holdfast Bay History Collection, uncovering lesser-known local material, purchasing photographs and learning how to contribute to the collection through donations.
With entry by gold coin donation, the centre offers an accessible way to spend time in Glenelg, whether you are exploring Adelaide’s seaside history on your own, visiting with others or organising a school or community group. Group bookings are available for parties of more than 10 people, including school groups. The centre is a short tram ride from Adelaide, at Stop 17 in Moseley Square, and is open daily from 10am to 4pm, except Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.6 from 69 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
