It was first licensed in 1846 as a small wattle-and-daub hut called the Thatched Cottage, established by Henry Highet, and the building once alternated between use as a pub and a church. William Voules Brown later rebuilt it as the Thatched House Tavern, before Margaret Leahy and her husband Tom undertook major renovations that led to the hotel reopening in 1936. Today’s modern venue retains that community connection while offering updated dining, sporting and family spaces.
