Carclew

Carclew is a North Adelaide cultural institution focused on children, young people and the arts. Based in a historic house on Jeffcott Street, it supports creative participation across music, visual art, performance and community programs. School Holiday Activities cater for children aged five to 17, while Stage Sparks offers children aged five to 12 a free introduction to the performing arts in Adelaide’s southern suburbs. The Gig Rig takes creative workshops, sound and vision equipment to under-resourced schools and regional and remote communities, extending Carclew’s reach beyond North Adelaide.

Carclew also has a strong role in supporting artists and educators. Its grants and fellowships assist young South Australian creatives with career development, research, professional growth and new work, while programs such as Artists in Schools and Teacher Professional Learning connect practising artists with schools. The organisation’s roots at Carclew House go back to 1971, when the South Australian Government gifted the historic property as a commitment to children and young people having access to art, culture and creativity. That history, along with its recognition of Kaurna Country and respect for Traditional Custodians, gives the venue a clear community and cultural purpose.
