Why it's worth checking out
Hindmarsh Square/Mukata is a public garden square in Adelaide CBD, surrounding the intersection of Grenfell and Pulteney streets near the eastern end of Rundle Mall. It is one of five public squares in the city centre and is made up of four quadrants, a layout shaped by the tram tracks that once ran through the space.
The square offers a mix of greenery and practical city recreation, including rose garden beds, jacarandas, cycling trails and a children’s sculptural playspace. Its standout feature is the Bunya Bunya Pine, described by the City of Adelaide as the tallest tree in Adelaide. The space also includes an accessible playspace, making it suitable for families, while its central setting and walking paths provide an easy break for city workers, shoppers and visitors.
Dogs are welcome in the designated on-leash area, with leads required at all times and limited to two metres. Open 24 hours a day, Hindmarsh Square/Mukata suits a short daytime visit, a walk through the city or a quiet pause among the gardens. Its location near Rundle Mall makes it convenient to include as part of a CBD outing.
