Why it's worth checking out
KOYO brings modern Asian charcoal-fire dining to Prospect, with a menu that combines contemporary hibachi and robatayaki-style cooking with broader Asian influences. Located at 132 Prospect Road, the restaurant is open for brunch and dinner every day, making it suitable for an early afternoon catch-up as well as an evening meal. It also welcomes BYO wine, with a $20 per-bottle charge, and offers group bookings for larger parties by arrangement.
The dinner menu is designed to move from smaller plates into more substantial dishes. Standouts include pork and cabbage gyoza, salted daikon dumplings, SA blue swimmer crab fritters, tempura Coorong mullet and crispy corn ribs. Bigger options include roasted shio koji half chicken, chargrilled salmon, a mushroom and rice claypot, Riverine premium steak, typhoon shelter prawns and mussels, roasted pork belly and roasted cauliflower. Robatayaki skewers add a charcoal-focused option, with tsukune chicken meatballs, Sichuan-spiced wagyu oyster blade, cumin lamb, pork belly, tofu and beetroot among the choices.
There is also a substantial Super Brunch menu, served every day from 10am to 2.30pm. It covers sandos and toasts, larger breakfast-style plates and udon bowls, including the KOYO fried chicken toast, beef sando, soft-shell crab egg Benedict, chashu fried rice, teriyaki salmon donburi, crispy chicken udon, XO chilli crab udon and spicy mushroom udon. Ramen is available as another dedicated section, with spicy Angus brisket, spicy seafood, tofu and cha shu versions. Wednesdays feature a $29 Steak & Fries offer, while the chef’s pick is listed at $70 per person for a minimum of two guests, with a steak supplement available.
The drinks list extends well beyond wine, with cocktails, Japanese beer, sake, spirits, mocktails, smoothies, coffee, tea and matcha drinks. Dessert options include deep-fried coconut ice cream, tiramisu and coconut affogato. With its mix of shareable plates, larger meals, brunch dishes and group-booking options, KOYO can work for couples, small groups and solo diners choosing from the broader menu. The booking widget accepts tables of up to nine guests; parties of nine or more are asked to call or email ahead.
