Light Square / Wauwi is a public square in the north-western quarter of Adelaide city centre and one of the six squares in the City of Adelaide. It offers an open city setting for walking, spending time outdoors and taking in public artworks.
The square has a strong connection to Adelaide’s history. It contains the burial site and memorial of Colonel William Light, who selected the site of the city. It is also home to the Pride Walk, a rainbow-coloured path that traces milestones and achievements, with a focus on South Australia’s role as the first state to decriminalise homosexuality.
With a designated on-leash dog area, Light Square / Wauwi suits city residents and visitors looking for a central outdoor stop, as well as people walking their dogs. Dogs must remain on a strong leash no longer than two metres. Its combination of public art, local history and civic significance makes it a worthwhile inclusion in a walking route through Adelaide CBD.
