Swell Brewing Co. combines a working brewery with a taphouse built around craft beer, food and a relaxed coastal outlook. The brewery’s story began in the back shed of Dan and Corrina Wright’s McLaren Vale vineyard, where Dan developed recipes influenced by the craft beer scene he encountered while travelling through the Americas on a surf and snowboard trip. That original connection to the coast remains part of Swell’s identity, with the taphouse looking across the vineyard towards the d’Arenberg Cube.

The beer is made with carefully sourced ingredients and a focus on flavour and texture. Coming from a wine background, Dan set out to create beers that could work alongside food rather than simply being enjoyed on their own. The taphouse serves food designed to pair with beer, with the website describing the kitchen’s approach as local and suited to a cold beer from the tap. It is a natural fit for visitors who want to make a meal of their brewery stop, as well as groups of friends looking for a casual place to share a few drinks.

The online range gives an indication of Swell’s broader brewing style, from Slab Hunter DDH Hazy IPA to richer releases including Getting Barreled Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, Double Black Diamond Imperial Stout and Winter Sessions Foreign Export Stout. Even the brewery dog, British bulldog Mikey Wright, has a place in the story.
