The Colonist

The Colonist is a long-standing pub on the corner of The Parade and Sydenham Road in Norwood, with a history dating back to its first licence in 1851. Originally founded by English brickmaker Frederick Hobbs, the venue has grown alongside the local community and remains a heritage-listed Adelaide pub. Its historic details include high ceilings, ornate copper roofing and original scenic wallpaper, giving the interior a distinct sense of place rather than a generic modern fit-out.

There are several ways to settle in, depending on the occasion. The main bar suits a casual drink or bite, while the restaurant offers table service and walls decorated with Gustav Klimt paintings. The pub is currently undergoing upgrades, including a new gaming room, with a new beer garden and refreshed bistro planned for the coming months. It remains open during the works, although the kitchen is operating with a limited menu until the regular offering returns.
