Wellington Square

Wellington Square, also known as Kudnartu, is a green space near Adelaide’s city centre offering a simple setting for a walk, a rest or a quiet break outdoors. The square has established paths and plenty of benches, making it suitable for solo visitors, casual strolls and moments away from the busier parts of Adelaide.

Its garden features include rose beds, jacarandas and cherry blossoms, offering changing seasonal interest. Cycling trails add another way to move through the space, while the open, garden-square layout provides room to take in the surroundings at an unhurried pace.

The name Kudnartu honours a Kaurna woman born near Crystal Brook in 1831, who died in 1855. This connection gives the square a clear place in Adelaide’s living cultural story. Dogs are welcome in the designated on-leash area, with leads required at all times and limited to two metres or less. Wellington Square is open 24 hours a day, so it can suit an early walk, a daytime garden visit or a quiet evening stop.
