Why it's worth checking out
Windmill Hotel is a Prospect pub with a traditional dining room, front bar, sports bar and several spaces for eating, drinking and getting together. Its position on Main North Road makes it an easy local stop, whether you are dropping in for a meal, meeting friends or settling in to watch sport on the big screens. The venue has been refurbished with a bright, welcoming look and includes accessible areas designed for a broad range of guests.
The kitchen serves hearty pub fare built around seasonal changes and local produce. The menu covers familiar options such as roast lamb, chicken schnitzel, burgers, steaks, seafood, salads and vegetarian and vegan dishes. Standout choices include the Windy Warmers section, a seafood selection with battered hake, salt and pepper squid and panko prawns, and a range of schnitzel toppings including Parmy, Hawaiian, Italian, Aussie and Windy. There are also desserts such as sticky date pudding, vanilla and raspberry cake and affogato. The kitchen operates from midday to 8.30pm daily, with selected main meals available at half price between 3pm and 4.30pm when purchased with a drink.
The beer garden is a major drawcard, with shade, outdoor seating and a large television for watching the footy. Inside, the sports bar has TAB facilities and plenty of screens, while the enclosed courtyard offers a more contained setting. A boardroom is available for meetings or smaller dinner gatherings, and the venue has six function spaces ranging from seating for 14 to standing events for up to 150 people. That mix makes it suitable for casual catchups, group meals, celebrations and work functions, as well as a relaxed lunch or dinner.
Beer is central to the pub experience, but the drinks list also places emphasis on South Australian wine. Windmill Hotel runs daily specials and welcomes long lunches and afternoon sessions, with bookings appreciated in advance. It is open every day apart from Christmas Day and Good Friday, including other public holidays, with no public holiday surcharge. For a straightforward Prospect pub meal, live sport and flexible spaces for groups, the Windmill offers plenty of ways to spend a few hours without needing to leave the one venue.
