Why it's worth checking out
Adventure Playground is part of Belair National Park near Mitcham, giving families a play stop within a much larger bushland setting. Picnic tables and free barbecues sit beside the playground, while the nearby Gold Escort Picnic Ground provides sheltered seating, barbecues and parking. A kiosk operates at the playground during weekends, public holidays and school holidays, subject to weather.
The surrounding park adds plenty to a visit. Families can combine playtime with the 1km Wood Duck Walk around Playford Lake or the 3km Lorikeet Loop Walk, although the latter includes climbs and sections affected by washouts. The park also has lakes, walking and mountain-bike trails, sporting facilities and informal picnic areas among native vegetation. Dogs are welcome on leads along designated trails, with visitors asked to take waste home as there are no bins in the park.
Accessibility is a notable part of the site. Adventure Playground has an accessible car park and two accessible toilets, while the park also provides a communication board with prompts for non-speaking visitors and a social script to help people prepare for a visit. An all-terrain assisted wheelchair, the MT Push, is available to hire free from the park information office, with a companion required to operate it. With space for play, picnics and an easy-to-extend outdoor outing, it suits families and groups looking to spend time in Adelaide’s hills rather than at an indoor activity centre.
