Mortlock Park Playground

Mortlock Park Playground in Colonel Light Gardens, Mitcham, is a broad recreation reserve with more than a standard play space. Its junior and youth playground includes a basket swing, arched net climber, balance walkers, stepping pads, chin-up bars, commando climber, parallel bars, a vertical rope climber and other climbing and movement equipment. There is also a flying fox, trampoline, slide and climbing wall, roundabout, four-person rocker and stepping logs listed among the park’s facilities.

The reserve is set up for a longer family visit, with picnic tables, a gazebo, seating, shade sails, barbecues, toilets and a drinking fountain. A junior-to-intermediate BMX track and one baseball diamond add more activity beyond the playground. The combination of play equipment, open oval space and practical facilities makes it suited to families with children of different ages, as well as local residents looking for an outdoor place to move and play.

Mortlock Park also has a strong sporting role in the local community. Football is associated with the Colonel Light Gardens Football Club, while Goodwood Baseball Club uses the baseball facilities, batting cages and practice nets. Colonel Light Gardens Primary School also uses the reserve for school activities and sport. Because sporting fixtures and licensed club use can occupy parts of the park, visitors planning a casual play or picnic visit may want to check current availability with the City of Mitcham. The park is located on West Parkway, Colonel Light Gardens, and the council lists the toilets as open seven days from 7.30am to 7pm.
